Friday,
March 12th, 20 North Gallery
opens their first all-jewelry show,
Adorning Glory, a solo exhibit,
featuring new works by local jewelry
artist Kimberly Arden. The show
continues through Saturday, April 24,
2010.
The
exhibit displays for sale a mix of
traditional and sculptural jewelry
pieces in a color palette new to the
artist—subdued organic tones and
neutrals punctuated with vibrant jewel
tones. The artist is also showing new
mixed-media sculptural installations
that incorporate wearable adornments.
Kimberly Arden states, “Making
work for this show has been a wonderful
yet bittersweet journey. I recently
lost my mother, my greatest fan and
critic. In creating these new pieces, I
was able to incorporate materials left
to me in her estate to keep her a part
of my creative process. When 20 North
Gallery first approached me with the
concept of a solo show incorporating my
jewelry as installation art, I was
intrigued and excited. I have never
felt I truly needed gallery
representation in my own ‘hometown,’ but
20 North Gallery provides a glamorous,
elegant setting that I truly enjoy.”
Kimberly
Arden is a full-time, self-taught
professional artist, working with
polymer clay for over twenty years as
one of the pioneers of this medium. As
an artist, she is best known for her
popular line of jewelry and
three-dimensional artwork. Her
contemporary media belies her meticulous
use of the same traditional cane-working
techniques used for centuries by
Venetian glass artists.
She has
been exhibiting her award-winning work
at juried fine art shows and galleries
across the nation for over twenty
years. Regional art shows include the
Ann Arbor (Michigan) Summer Art Fair;
Cincinnati (Ohio) Summerfair;
Art in the Park-Common Ground in
Birmingham, Michigan and the Columbus
and Cincinnati Winterfairs in
Ohio. She also exhibits her work
extensively throughout the local
community at juried art fairs and
festivals, including her annual
participation in the Crosby Festival
of the Arts as one of their
most-requested artists.
Her
enthusiastic love of color is clearly
evident in her work. She is in great
demand as a polymer clay and painting
instructor in her home state of
Michigan, at both Monroe County
Community College and the Bedford Adult
Education program. She has recently
been featured on HGTV’s That’s
Clever.
Kimberly
Arden is a member of many prestigious
regional and national artist guilds and
associations including: Metro Detroit
(Michigan) Polymer Art Guild, Ohio
Designer Craftsman Guild, Michigan Guild
of Artists and Artisans, International
Polymer Clay Association, Columbus
(Ohio) Polymer Art Guild, as well as
locally in the women’s Athena Art
Society in Toledo, Ohio.
